How to read the shipment risk index

One number, built only from feeds that answered, and what each feed does not measure.

One card, then the details

The index is a weighted score of the feeds that responded: weather, port activity, chokepoints, fuel direction, currency, disruption headlines, and a freight baseline if the forwarder stored one. A missing feed is marked not available. It is never shown as a calm green.

What the free feeds are not

Port activity from IMF PortWatch is daily ship calls, lagged by days. It is not the number of ships at anchor. Brent from the US energy agency is a crude proxy, not a carrier bunker surcharge. Exchange rates are the European Central Bank reference, not a bank's commercial rate. Headlines are signals, not a confirmed closure. There is no free container-number tracker and no free live freight index.

Who gets an email when the index rises?

The card updates by itself. An email to the importer waits until someone on the desk confirms it.
